Vicky Smart

Bryan and Vicky met while Bryan was coaching show jumping at The Royal Windsor Horse Trials in 1990 and Vicky was the Equine Physiotherapist.
Vicky belonged to the Pony Club and competed in BSJA Show Jumping before she became involved in racing through the point to point field. Vicky is a qualified Veterinary Nurse and worked in Animal Health for the Ministry of Agriculture prior to training as an Equine Physiotherapist. She joined William Hastings-Bass in Newmarket in 1989 riding out, helping in the office and carrying out treatments on the horses. When the Hastings-Bass (later Lord Huntingdon) team moved to West Ilsley in Berkshire to train from the Queen's West Ilsley Stables Vicky became full time therapist and was involved with many good horses including Indian Queen - Ascot Gold Cup; Colour Sergeant - Royal Hunt Cup; Unknown Quantity - Breeder's Cup turf; Drum Taps - Ascot Gold Cup (twice) and many others.
Vicky was a successful amateur rider herself and has ridden winners both in the Point to Point field and on the flat. These days she is very involved with re-training ex racehorses for alternative careers and has been highly successful in ROR show classes including qualifying her three horses Diiferential, Chivola and Roger's Revenge for the Horse of the Year Show competing there every year since 2007.

In 2010 Vicky completed a three year course in Veterinary Homeopathy and has found that this natural system of medicine hugely benefits the racehorse as it treats the totality of the animal stimulating the body's own healing process and has no side effects or withdrawal periods.

One of the unique features about Bryan Smart's training yard is the constant presence of a physiotherapist and homeopath who also rides out and is personally involved with the horses. To find out more about Vicky's work in any of the above fields click on the appropriate area on this website.
Hobbies:

Showing and showjumping with daughter Beth.

Assistant Trainer - Kevin Edmunds

Kevin Edmunds has been with us for 4 years.
He was previously head lad to Milton Harris and also rode as a National Hunt/Point to Point jockey. Kevin will be a familiar face to many both at home and on the racecourse where he frequently attends meetings when Bryan is unable to be present. He rides many of the horses in their home work and is very much a 'hands on' presence in the yard.

Head Lass - Rebecca Edmunds

Rebecca (Kevin's wife) has an Equine Science degree and is our Head Lass. She organises the yard routine and manages the horses and the staff equally well.
Rebecca recently qualified as a Sport's Therapist (human) and is enjoying using some of her skills on the staff and horses!

Racing Secretary -Mike Gorvin

Mike qualified as an accountant in 1997 but has always had a keen interest in horseracing. In 2006 he threw in the sensible lifestyle and went into racing to work for Richard Guest as his Assistant and Secretary, a job he enjoyed immensely. When that yard relocated in 2008 Mike joined us here at Hambleton House. He will be well known as the 'voice on the end of the phone' and can occasionally be spotted having an afternoon out at Thirsk or York races!!

Accounts Secretary - Fiona Watson

Fiona joined us recently and comes in on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to run the accounts department.

Vet - Brian Reed

Vet - Sue Armstrong

Sue specialises in Homeopathy and visits the yard once a month to build up profiles of each horse, developing important remedies and nosodes to help maintain their wellbeing, general health and immunity. Sue worked closely with Alastair and this has helped us to create a healthier and more relaxed environment for the horses to train in.

Farrier - Londonderry Forge - Huw Dyer

Huw and his team of lads visit Hambleton House every day and help to keep the horses feet in good condition. Huw is a well known expert in his field and regularly lectures to vets and students on remedial farriery.

Tom Eaves - Stable Jockey

The Team

We have a great team of staff here at Hambleton House where we take great pride in attention to detail.
Our staff have won numerous 'best turned out' awards at the races and take great pride in each horse in their care.

Beth

Beth Smart is 12 years old and totally involved with the daily routine at Hambleton House.
She knows every horse by name and particularly enjoys getting to know the new yearlings as they come in.
Beth loves going up the gallops or to showjumping competitions with her pony Ice and qualified for HOYS this year on her 13 hands SHP Mario.
